I’ve used the Vario in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Mexico, Belize etc. A very safe unit to use,( 4 guys relied on one Vario). No ill effects at all. Easy to use and clean. A couple of minor quibbles are; ‘outlet hose’ bag could be tougher and markings for ‘fast/longer’ are difficult to see in low light conditions. It is important to avoid cross-contamination of filter so ALWAYS remember to keep the inlet valve on pump covered with supplied cap when unit is packed away. Highly recommended unit.

You talked about cleaning the filter, how often do you have to clean it? you made it sound like you have to clean it after every use. I have one called “first need” and I think you just buy a new filter part after a while.

It doesn’t actually …
It doesn’t actually kill anything; the filter element openings are smaller than than the diameter of a single celled bacteria so they don’t make it through to the collection vessel. It WILL NOT filter viruses; viruses have a smaller diameter than cells by a factor of 10. However, viruses cannot survive in the open; they rely on a host so if you can filter out the host, you can filter out the viral infection.
