Which water filter-Katadyn Vario vs. MSR Miniworks EX?
Pros and cons if you will.
Katadyn specializes in water treatment…whereas MSR covers everything from stoves tents and water filters. I`d go with Katadyn when it comes to filters….

I have the MSR and I have found that it clogs pretty easy and is a pain to clean. With that being said I bought a Platypus water filter. It has worked really well.

I would go with the katadyn its about the same size as the msr and it is a better filter system.
Ive used them both and the katadyn is just a little slower but doesn’t clog up like the msr and the katadyn saves you time by not having to unclog it as often.

i have the Miniworks and like it. if i’m not mistaken, the Katadyn is a charcoal filter, right?
the porcelain filter isn’t good in freezing temperatures and can sometimes break if dropped. and yeah, it’ll stop up a litter sooner than a charcoal one will. why i like the porcelain filters better than charcoal is you can clean them yourself when they get clogged and you don’t have to buy new filters nearly as often.

I have the Vario it contains both a charcoal and porcelain filter, the only issue i had when out was after losing all my water one night and having to try and filter from a rain puddle because I was starting out almost 5 miles from my next water source. So later when I had a harder time and an issue with leaking around the filter cover, it was an easy fix just to open and rinse off.
